The competition, which began last Wednesday 17 and will run until Sunday August 21, will be held at the aquatic complex of the Atanasio Girardot sports unit, in the city of Medellin.
During the awards ceremony, more than 20 digital medals will be delivered to the divers in the different trials.
FECNA will be the first federation of this sport in Latin America to deliver digital medals to athletes through the use of Non Fungible Tokens (NFTs).
The Spanish company LEVERADE, using Avalanche’s network, is the technological provider of the federation and responsible for implementing the blockchain technology that will make possible the delivery of these digital trophies.
Each digital medal will have a certificate of authenticity and ownership engraved in the blockchain forever. In addition, athletes will be able to share the award through their social networks and spread their joy with the digital community.
A unique digital asset
An NFT (Non-Fungible Token) is a digital certificate of authenticity which, through blockchain technology (the technology that makes cryptocurrencies possible), it is associated with a single digital file (an image, video, audio, text or compressed file) with a unique value.
NFTs have the particularity of not being copied under any circumstances and, thanks to blockchain technology, each of them can be traced in a completely transparent way to verify when it was created and by whom.
LEVERADE has innovated in the market by being the first sports software company to create official NFTs trophies and medals, endorsed by a Sports Federation.
These pieces are unique and unrepeatable and have a certificate of authenticity engraved on the blockchain. When the creative team of LEVERADE thinks about the design of each piece, they want to capture the essence of each club.
For the design of the NFT digital medal for the FEDRA National Interleague Diving Championship, Franco Giordano, 3D artist at LEVERADE, explained the path taken:
“We realized that the federation attaches great importance to the care of the environment and a great respect for cultural diversity.
On this idea we worked on the concept of the medal based on the integrity of the disciplines on an environmental awareness.
To be able to capture this proposal, we use the shapes and the relief of the territory as a discourse. This can be observed from the exit of the ocean passing through the mountain ranges as the main settlement, and then ending in the plains / plateaus.
The minimalist cut allows us to generate a contrast with the natural and a look at the contemporary world.”
About the tournament
In the competition, more than 50 athletes from eight leagues affiliated to the Colombian Swimming Federation are competing in the National Interleague Diving Championship in the open category.
Through this tournament, the athletes seek to qualify for the South American Games to be held in Asuncion (Paraguay) in October, which are part of the Olympic Cycle competitions.
The championship has brought together distinguished figures of the discipline at the national level (including world finalists Felipe Uribe and Sebastián Morales) and is broadcast by Fecna+ through Facebook Live.
FECNA at the vanguard of sports in Latin America
The most important sports institution in Colombian swimming had already taken a big step towards innovation by partnering with LEVERADE at the beginning of this month.
The agreement between the two entities not only lies in the use of blockchain technology to deliver the NFT digital trophies, but also in the implementation of LEVERADE’s management software for sports entities.
This software allows FECNA to manage all the federation’s operations: athletes, rankings, sports history, event results, mobile application, membership management and validation, club and league management, database, championship management, referee/judge management, among other functionalities.
The objective of the Colombian Swimming Federation is to provide its affiliates more benefits every day and, thanks to the implementation of this software, this desire can be materialized.
Through the implementation of LEVERADE’s management software and the use of blockchain technology to award athletes through NFT digital trophies, FECNA continues to position itself as one of the most important and innovative sport federations in the world.
